Aluminium & Timber Venetians
A roller is open or closed by degree. A venetian steers light by direction — tilt the slats up for glare-free daylight, down for privacy from a double-storey neighbour, or flat closed for a dark room, all at any blind height you choose. On a suburb like Atholl, where mature trees throw a different pattern of shade through a room at 8am, midday and 4pm, that hour-by-hour adjustability is often the whole reason a client chooses a venetian over a roller in the first place.
Aluminium venetians are the practical choice wherever moisture is part of the room's story — kitchens, bathrooms, sculleries and laundries, where fabric blinds eventually fail. Slats come in a 25mm profile (crisp, the most popular line count) or a bolder 50mm. Powder-coated finishes hold up to normal humidity and cleaning without complaint, and the colour range runs from clean whites through to convincing wood-look finishes for a fraction of timber's cost.
Timber and bamboo venetians are the natural material call for a study, a formal dining room, or any room with sash windows and original proportions worth respecting — the warmth reads as architectural rather than "blind," in a way aluminium can't quite match. Keep them out of steam-heavy rooms; a good lacquer finish handles normal household humidity, but a shower-adjacent bathroom is still aluminium's job. Timber slats are heavier than aluminium too, so very wide windows are usually split or ladder-tape supported — worth flagging at the measure.
A note on maintenance and safety
Chain-tilt venetians are fitted with a wall tensioner as standard, keeping the loop taut and out of reach of small hands — and we'll always flag wand-tilt or cordless options for a nursery or playroom. On the coast we'd talk hardware corrosion; in Atholl the honest maintenance note is dust — big glass and mature gardens mean venetian slats want a wipe-down more often than a roller's flat fabric face.
What venetian blinds cost in Atholl
Slat material sets the price before anything else does. Aluminium in twenty-five or fifty millimetre slats runs roughly R1,000 to R1,500 per square metre installed with wand and cord, and R2,500 to R3,600 per square metre once tilt and lift are motorised. Timber is heavier to make and heavier to hang: allow R1,600 to R2,600 per square metre hand-operated, and R3,000 to R4,500 per square metre motorised.
These bands are for planning only. A short window carries a minimum charge, because the brackets, tube and fitting labour barely shrink with the opening, and the real figure for each window is worked out at the free measure and confirmed in writing.
